Cargo Italia Resumes JFK with MD-11

Cargo Italia has successfully bought out the cargo department of Alitalia. They plan to operate cargo flights from MXP to AUH, YYZ, and JFK using ex-Alitalia Cargo MD-11s.

ALIS announces Cargoitalia start-up operations


Since today the buyout of cargo department of Alitalia S.p.A. in
Extraordinary Administration has been completed by Cargoitalia, the
freight carrier managed by ALIS Aerolinee Italiane S.p.A..

Following up this transaction, the reorganization of the Italian air cargo
industry has now been completed.

Since next month, the Italian Carrier will connect again Malpensa to the
main world cargo destinations starting from New York, Toronto and Abu
Dhabi.
Cargoitalia becomes the Italian carrier for the intercontinental cargo
business.

ALIS Aerolinee Italiane S.p.A.’s shareholder structure is composed by ALIS
Holding S.p.A. (66,7%) and Intesa SanPaolo (33,3%).
The company’s equity is € 15 mln and it has been already planned to
increase it up to € 25 mln within next 12 months.
Beyond Leali family, Ricerca S.p.A. (Benetton), Selin S.p.A. (van den
Heuvel) and Banca Intermobiliare are shareholders of ALIS Holding S.p.A.
with a 10% share each.

Alcide Leali, President of ALIS, declares: “Cargoitalia represents the
authentic Made in Italy of air cargo business. We aim to become market
leader in our Country and to place ourselves on the top list in Europe with
the investment of Italian human resources and equity.”

Thats a good thing, at least the ex Alitalia MD-11s arent gonna be in the deserts parted out like I thought. We did had a DC-10 coming to JFK for quite sometime. But the MD-11s will do well with the routes.

I'm going to guess although this is essentially a hybrid scheme, it ultimately becomes Cargo Italia's "full colors" for some time to come...
