Honeywell Convair 580 is back. This time LGA

    Greetings,
N580HW makes another trip to the NYC area and this time LGA. It departed MIA for LGA this afternoon and as to be expected a cloud moved over the plane conveniently right as it was coming by. Its always something else to compromise a decent shot.

Of course, that cloud could not be on the other side of the sky, where all the blue is. Nice job anyway, Senga!

And because misery loves company- the last time she came to PHL(that I remember), I waited on my back deck to get her approaching 27R. So what did they do? Landed Rwy 35, obviously.

Yes that true. And the plane in the shadow of the cloud with the blue background makes for a painful edit. I do find sometimes a a backgorund with clouse and a plane in the shadow of one can have a nice effect as in the 3rd shot. Its my favorite out of the three.

The Convair will be popping in and out of LGA for the next 2 days, so there are more chances

They're doing a few "storm chasing" media runs, showing off new weather gear.

    Very nice,
I noticed they were doing that a lot. Flying up and down leading and trailing edges of severe storms. Must be a nice view.

Would be nice to get some flaming start ups like this CVLT :) Not sure of the model engine on N580HW Convair has will do it. There was a massive fireball that shot out first that I missed.

Just missed it!! Coming back from Manhattan via Astoria Park I got there at 2:15 stopping by the fence line east of Plainview Park watching all the boring Delta planes take off, lol!! Pretty cool they cut down all the bushes and shrubs along that frence and you get a very nice view of R4.

Sucks the cloud had to move in at just the wrong time but the Convair is still an awesome catch.

Gerard, That would be nice. I think JFK's version of "Plane View Park" would have been the parking lot at the top of runway 13R. It was always a nice place to shoot in and generally no one would bother you- especially when families were around watching n the weekends and evenings.

    Kiffy,
Yea those Convairs are a dying breed. When I first started shooting they were a dime a dozen but still never missed an opportunity to shoot one.

Yes yes those FAA Convairs. They were both an obsession of mine shortly after I moved to NY. It was a pain to track down both liveries. I think my mot valuable convair is the ERA CLVT.

I think my most valuable and memorable CLTV is the ERA Convair 580. I have NO idea why it was at KMDW as they are based and only fly round Alaska when they had Convairs. At the time Convairs were a dime a dozen in and around the Midwest (Mid 90s).
