Great review Matt you said exactly what was on my mind when I saw the commercial for this. I love Lucas' work, but I hate it when Hollywood gets its mitts on a piece of history like this. What's next? Will Smith in an edge-of-your-seat drama about Plessy vs Ferguson(with equally corny language)???

Even CNN's review (taken from Entertainment Weekly) calls this "prosaic" and "thinly scripted". But I guess this is what it takes to get the average American interested in history these days, by creating a Hollywood blockbuster movie about it

Thanks. What's even more puzzling is I always thought it was the big studios who ruined movies like this, screening them for focus groups and re-editing them until they were bland enough not to offend anyone. But the studios had nothing to do with this movie, it was all George Lucas.
