Astraeus, who ran the Iceland Express service to EWR, has gone bankrupt. Some of the tour operators who used AEU have secured use of a Czech 733, but the Newark service has been "suspended until January 9," although we all know it's not coming back.

The summer service they ran to Boston was never ever on time.
Iceland Express, we hardly knew ye...
Would have been nice to catch one of those. Oh well......
Iceland Express is done with Newark but they're still flying to London using CSA metal.
Kind of a bizarre story. Among other snafus, apparently they didn't tell customers but they did rebook them on Icelandair flights out of JFK, but not until they showed up for check-in at EWR. I'll post more tomorrow.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9
That's a bummer, but I could never find an Iceland Express fare from EWR-KEF that was competitive with Icelandair from JFK. Hopefully, WOW Air will fill in the EWR-KEF route.
