    RIP 727s

While attending the airshow at Smyrna, TN this past weekend I stumbled upon a sight for sore eyes. When I first caught a glance at what is in the pictures below it brought a tear to my eyes. On the eastern most portion of the ramp at Smyrna, TN is a small final resting place for a handful of Boeing 727s.

    Very, very sad........

Mark, sadly enough seeing that Pan Am 727 was the first time I'm ever seen a Pan Am jet in person as I was still young and didn't travel when they were still in service. Wish I could have see her flying back when Pan Am existed. I bet she looked beautiful cruising across the sky.

Sad indeed. The last regularly scheduled 727 into ALB ended this fall (FedEx).

It's interesting that most of them seem to be in the process of being parted out except for the Prestige Airways one which still has engines attached.

The Prestige and I think two others that are not pictured still have engines on them. I was talking to the husband of the airport manager there and he said that if I had been there a few weeks prior I could have seen the last of a DC-8 that was tehre getting torn apart.

I can still go to PVD mon-fri and see the FedEx 727 arrive in the morning. They had a FedEx 727 on static display at the airshow. The static displays seemed to leave the show promptly after it ended on Sunday. When I stopped at the observation area at Nashville Intl before heading to the terminal I had put my camera away and had to pull it back out because the FedEx 727 landed to make a quick stop before I'm assuming it headed back to Memphis. Was nice to see that beauty gliding in for a landing, and on the runway closest to me too. Loved that she turned onto the taxiway right in front of me for a beautiful head on shot. (will post in different thread later on tonight hopefully)

Thank you for the therapy as I was so messed up I could not post in a threat with the PAA 727 like that! Boy that UA727 landing SUCKED! He was all over the place on final and way to slow on touchdown. Not how you want to bring in a 72 on anyday let alone with film crews filming a historic. That was great tho Doc....change the subject with a bad landing.....Right On!

Anyone got a tissue...... Man, I miss 727's... There are some GEM's in that mix. I can't get over the Capitol and Prestige birds... Not to mention Northworst and PanAm... I think I might have been most recent member on this site to fly on a 727 in PanAm livery. 2005, SFB-BQN.... Of course it was actually a United 727 at least in build but it said PanAm on it!

Man it i do feel hurt seeing these 727s in the shape they are, i really miss seeing a bunch flying today, my dad took me on my first flight when i was 3 and it was a Pan Am 727 to Texas.. The 727s are still one of my favorate birds.. Too bad they are in the shape they are now. Lucky i still see a Fedex 727 take off after 10pm from KSWF when ever im in Newburgh at those times.. I love the blast on those birds and I never got tired of feeling the vibes.. They are fun to watch as always, I love the smoke trails!.. when i go to LGA or JFK, when ever I see an MD of DL or AA, it reminds me of looking at 727s but only minus the tail engine, and I do love MD-80s too.. Love the vibes!!. Long live 727s!!
