JetBlue may announce headquarters move in 3 months

NEW YORK – JetBlue said Wednesday it will decide within three months if its headquarters will stay in New York or land in a new city.

The airline says it may move its corporate headquarters to Orlando, Fla., the site of its training facility. JetBlue has been considering that move for more than a year.

The carrier has said going to Orlando would likely mean consolidating its New York home office with its smaller finance department in Darien, Conn., at the new location. JetBlue has about 800 employees at those two offices.

Moving to Orlando would also mean a brand adjustment for the carrier, which calls itself "New York's hometown airline."

The lease on JetBlue's New York headquarters expires in 2012. The Connecticut office's lease expires next year.

Spokeswoman Alison Croyle said that no matter what it decides, New York will remain the company's operational home with its Terminal 5 at JFK Airport.

Allegedly they met with the Governor of Florida yesterday. I suspect they're trying to scare NY into sweetening the deal. Could they really run the airline 1100 miles from its main hub? I can't think of any other major carrier that does that.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.

B6 is more like a WN than the legacy carriers. Also remember B6 keeps a corparate headquarters in Utah as well. Not to mention WN does ok with being headquarterd in Dallas but having their busiest stations far away like LAS. Don't see an issue here and think they are serious about leaving.

AirTran does it. ATL is the hub and MCO is the CHQ

Well, WN's primary base IS DAL Airport, barely 3 miles away from the HDQ. So I can't say this is really a good example to use?

While WN has larger operations at other airports no doubt, the primary base, where they station everyone is at DAL Airport, and the Facilities outside of DAL Airport and at HDQ.

WN has a Human Resource (People Department for us) at all of their major stations where there are crew bases, this being OAK, LAS, PHX, MDW, DAL, HOU, MCO and BWI.

The only reason DAL isn't as busy was because of the Wright/Shelby Amendments in place. I am sure we will see WN add as many flights as possible in 2014 when the Amendment becomes null and void.

Also, ATL is only 400 or so miles from MCO. Not nearly 1000 miles. That is definitely a big stretch.

B6 maintains a Customer Service Office in Utah, however most corporate jobs are still in Queens. If you have a letter to write to jetBlue, their office in SLC handles those.
