    Airpower Museum Labor Day Visitors

As mentioned in the FRG thread, we have two special visitors in town ahead of the upcoming Labor Day weekend. "Barbie III", a B-25H, arrived Thursday afternoon, and will be in town for about two weeks. The Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation C-54 arrived today, and will remain through next weekend.

The B-25H is the rare "gun nose" version. In place of the glass nose and bombardier station, it has a solid nose with 4 50-caliber guns and a 75mm cannon. It was used primarily for ground attack and against Japanese shipping. They are offering flights in her next weekend.

The C-54 is an airborne museum, commemorating the Berlin Airlift. It will be parked at the museum all week, but will only be open to visitors during the holiday weekend.

Here are a few shots from Friday's ceremonies, commemorating the Berlin Airlift and the WASP program.

Elke Mariotti, now a Huntington resident, was a young child growing up in Berlin during the airlift. Here she talks with two Air Force veterans of the airlift.

Eleanor Collins Faust prepares for a flight in the museum's WACO. Ms Faust was a member of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) Program, and learned to fly in a WACO in 1944. Now 87, she took three flights in the aircraft on Friday.

WCBS-2 reporter Jennifer McLogan prepares a report for the station.

On the left is Guenter Bier, museum docent and native of Germany. With him is a representative of the German Consulate, and three AF veterans of the Berlin Airlift.

Not something you see everyday, a pair of B-25s!

Someone brought a small horse to the museum :D

The kids got to play with the fire truck!

Just part of the great group of volunteers who make these events happen!
