Home yesterday (on Vacay) and as I was getting ready to go out and finishing up some chores I was watching the Michael
Jackson coverage on CNN. There was ENG footage over Forest Lawn and there even was a shot of LA City "Fire 5" (AW139)
sitting in a parking lot LZ probably for possible medevac work if needed. As the entourage moved out to the Staples Center
the ENGs followed. Kinda reminded me of the infamous OJ "chase". Later I learned from another website that ATC in SoCal
was handling close to 27 aircraft (Helos & fixed wing) over Forest Lawn at ONE TIME!!!! A TFR of 1 mile/3000 feet was in effect
and Tower worked them up to 3500 feet. Usually aircraft get handed off by the tower at 2500 MSL. Every area ENG was up working (SoCal has a lot of those), various PDs (LAPD, LA Sheriffs, CHP) FDs (LACity and County) and from what I was told the foreign press were renting out helicopters for photogs. Good for the aerial economy.
I would love to have been listening in to the air-to-air frequency with all those ships buzzing about.
