N106US Had Engine Failure 2 Days Before River Landing

According to CNN, passengers on flight 1549 TWO DAYS EARLIER have reported that the plane was rocked by a series of loud bangs and the flight crew made an announcement that they would have to make an emergency landing. But 10 minutes later they came back on the intercom and said it was only a stalled compression on the engine that had been fixed and they continued without incident. US Airways would not comment on these allegations including the report that it was the same aircraft but said that they are looking in to it. The NTSB and the FAA are both 'no commenting".

Passengers report scare on earlier US Airways Flight 1549

    CNN Special Investigations Unit

(CNN) -- Two days before US Airways Flight 1549 crashed into the Hudson River, passengers on the same route and same aircraft say they heard a series of loud bangs and the flight crew told them they could have to make an emergency landing, CNN has learned.

Steve Jeffrey of Charlotte, North Carolina, told CNN he was flying in first class Tuesday when, about 20 minutes into the flight, "it sounded like the wing was just snapping off."

"The red lights started going on. A little pandemonium was going on," Jeffrey recalled.

He said the incident occurred over Newark, New Jersey, soon after the plane -- also flying as Flight 1549 -- had taken off from LaGuardia Airport in New York. [Full Article]

U.S. Airways has been showing all scheduled flights bearing flight number AWE1549 since Friday morning. Shows the same on flight status for today and tomorrow. That's the most it allows me to check. Wonder if it's all P.R. or if there is some superstition in there also.

They've retired the flight no. 1549. That flight is now known as 1543.
