Police called in as mob of 500 gatecrashers storm Facebook birthday party

More than 500 youths were caught up in a mass brawl as they tried to gatecrash a girl's 18th birthday party advertised on Facebook.

Up to 50 police officers were scrambled to disperse the bottle-throwing louts after the group was refused entry to the bash at Club 791 in Thornton Heath, South London.

A boy of 15 was taken to hospital and a girl held over a public order offence following the trouble, which happened as uninvited guests flocked to the venue after spotting the unnamed girl's bash on the popular social networking website.
