W00t.
The submarine USS Growler was seen chugging up the East River this past week for some minor repairs at the Brooklyn Navy Yard before it's towed over to the Intrepid.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9
*snicker* Growler.
I'm very excited. This is some good news.
Email me anytime at [email protected].
Was the Growler actually moving under her own power? I didn't know she was still operational.
I've been giving it some thought, and I think I want to be at Hamilton Park in Weehawken to catch the Intrepid's return:

There's a pic of her in that link, looks like she's being pushed by a tug.

OK, now I see it - I thought that was part of the sub's structure when I first looked at it.
But what do I know, I'm an Air Force guy!

I hope G-BOAD is now better looked after.......
My understanding is they're going to encase her in amber...Originally Posted by Jetinder

For four years I've seen that ship on my way to and way back from school.
I'll miss seeing it on Staten Island lol.
Anyone know if they have anything special planned for this weekend, opening ceremony for the public etc?

Where do you go to school? It's been less than two years since they moved her from Pier 86.Originally Posted by nikon50bigma
I don't think anything special is happening this weekend. Once it returns to the pier, they will be completing work to get it ready for the public. It is scheduled to re-open the weekend of November 8/9, and they do have special activities planned for Veterans Day, November 11.Originally Posted by nikon50bigma

Thats a great spot Moose, I've shot from there before. One thing to keep in mind though is the Intrepid is expected docked on Manhattan's West Side by very early afternoon - If the tip process is delayed (VERY possible) or its overcast, fine, but if its on time, and sunny, you'll likely be back-lit.

My dad and I are going to head over tomorrow, probably to Weehawken first then take the ferry across to walk up to it.

Spent much of the day at Hamilton Park in Weehawken. Met James (Flyboy28), and a sizable crowd out to see the move.
Started off with a P-3 flying down the Hudson
Near Ground Zero they unfurled a large American flag on the side of the ship
Some of the crowd at the park
