New Computer Plan

I'm building myself a new computer, and I finally ordered all the parts, and get a chance to post the plan on here.

Here we go:

Case: Antec Twelve Hundred Gaming Case
Power Supply: PC Power and Cooling Turbo-Cool 1KW-SR (Single-Rail) [1000 Watts Continuous and 72 Amps]
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450
RAM: 4GB (2x 2GB) Corsair Dominator RAM @1066MHz
GPUs: 2x NVIDIA 8800GTS 512MB G92 Core in SLI
Motherboard: EVGA 780i Motherboard
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB

Is it really worth it to go SLI to start with? I've found that if you're going to spend more than $300 on video cards, it's better to buy a single top-of-the-line card immediately, and then buy another copy of the same card in a couple of years when it's $120.

I was about to complain about your power supply, but apparently PC Power and Cooling is part of OCZ, who is very reputable in the RAM world.

The Antec 1200 should be an awesome case...I've been using an Antec 900 since it came out. It's very heavy, but it's built like a tank and very easy to use once you figure out how the front bays work.

Overall, sounds like a very solid machine...much better than mine :)

That's exactly why I went SLI. I was originally waiting for the 9800GTX+ to come out in July, but someone directed me to a killer deal on the 8800GTS's. I got each for $120. :D

By the way, I am NOT one of those people who upgrade whenever something new comes out. Frankly, I really have never used such hardware, and even just last year, would have never imagined owning a 8800GTS, let alone two.

Oh...wow...for $240, you definitely aren't going to do any better...the going rate on 8800GTSs is about $200 apiece.

I used to be one of those people who upgraded whenever something new came out...I always bought the new second-tier product after it got replaced and the prices dropped. :) It's a bit of an addiction, but my computer is fast enough right now and I spend all of my money on camera parts anyway.

I've been using PC Power & Cooling Power Supplies for a few years now and everyone I know and recommend them to has said great things. The conclusion I came to a while back is that power is really the center of the whole machine - without clean and reliable power delivery, your whole machine could eat the dust. So spending a little more money on the PS for a better unit up front is an investment that will benefit you in the long run.

That said, I'm done with custom PC's and Windows, I'm buying Mac from here on in. Sooo much work when the Mac is just that much better...

Great deal on the GPU's, that will be a killer computer when it's done!

That looks like a very powerful machine, but beware that in 6 months time Intel will bring out a new chipset and CPU design (Nehalem)

Your CPU will be "yesterday's" thing, but if your happy with what you got then enjoy.

This year i had to upgrade my PC to an Intel E6600, its ok but i hope to get a Q6600 quad core.

My computer has been completed for a while, but it just occurred to me that I've never posted pictures of it in case anyone's interested.

One thing that I've slightly changed since the original plan is the motherboard. Originally it was a 780i, but now it's an EVGA 780i FTW Edition.
