JFK Says Näkemiin to Finnair MD-11 on March 29th, 2009

Saturday, March 29, 2009 will be the last day that Finnair will be operating their MD-11 on the HEL-JFK-HEL route. On March 30th the route will be operated by their new Airbus A330-300 fleet. All of the MD-11 fleet will be completely phased out by 2010.

While this is still barely a year away it's important to keep this in mind when shooting at the airport, make the right choice and photograph the beast before she's gone!

Talk about mixed feelings! I love seeing the MD11/DC10 aircraft as they are unique in their own way.
On the other hand though, I think I am missing only one of the MD11's (photo-wise), I look forward to seeing the AY A330's. Something new to catch!

Very shame to see the MD-11s go.. Finnair has been operating MD-11s for 17 years to JFK which took over the DC-10s on the HEL-JFK-HEL in the early 1990s.. Im guessing that
Finnair will be the last passenger airline to operate to JFK unless KLM or World Airways would bring back passenger MD-11s to JFK again after March 29th 2009...
