What I did today (Lotta Pix)

Some of you may know I'm involved with a local model club - the Long Island Scale Model Society. We had our annual model show and contest today (Saturday) in Freeport. As club photographer, I had a table set up to photograph the models, as well as shooting the display tables and other activities. We had a very good turnout today (while it was sunny, it was too cold to do yard work - after 23 years of this, we've gotten very good at knowing how the weather effects us!) I thought I'd share some of my photos from the event.

This one really caught my eye - a 3 foot square diorama of Terminal 5! He usually builds airliner models, but after getting some Herpa 1/400 scale aircraft, decided to do something different. The terminal is all scratch-built. He said he used a combination of photographs, drawings, and Google Earth images to prepare the construction plans.

For several years now, our club has collected donations of model kits and supplies, as well as personal items (toiletries, etc) and sent them to the troops in Iraq. One of our members is an SP with the 106th at Gabreski, and served a tour in Iraq, returning home about a year ago.

For those interested, here's a look at my set up.

Wow, the T5 setup is really cool!

Any reason why there is one gate that boards from 1R? Is it that way in real life?
    nwa FOREVER!

Real nice stuff, I have a kit of the F-14D that's at Republic. I still need to assemble it actually, I should stop by when I get home and start to learn the trade!

I've got the 1/72 Hasegawa Tomcat in those markings too. Wanted to have it built for our show - still haven't gotten around to starting it. Our club meets the 4th Tuesday of every month in Levittown.

moose are those kits or scratch-built? i used to build kits as a kid, mostly stuck to cars back then. didn't retain any either, though they weren't as good as those...
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

Matt, most of those are from kits, but some guys do scratch-build models. There is so much available these days, between kits, after-market detail parts, and markings, you don't see too much scratch-built stuff unless it's an obscure subject (and we have one guy in our club who is a master of the scratch-built, obscure subject!) You do see a fair bit of scratch building when it comes to details and dioramas.
