Woman Googles Jet Part That Fell Through Her Roof

A woman near Palm Beach International Airport who found a trailer hitch-shaped chunk of steel had smashed through her roof did what any of us would probably do: she looked up the engraved part number on Google. Turned out it was a McDonnell-Douglas jack pad, a piece that has no business being attached to an aircraft when it's in flight. 9 years ago a piece of a Continental jet's exploding engine fell onto the woman's husband's truck.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9
