So with a 7:10 AM arrival and a 9:30 PM departure, she's spending 14 hours on the ground? Ouch.

That is a long time on the ground, but it's a 16 hour flight, which I think must require two flight crews and two cabin crews in each direction. With 14 hours on the ground they can use the same personnel on the return flight. If there were only 2 hours on the ground, it might require ferrying an extra 15 crewmembers on every flight! Certainly that weight capacity should be used for revenue generating purposes, not for deadheading.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

Man, I didn't read my own post clearly! I was under the impression that she came in at 15:55 (3:55pm). Guess I'll have to get up mighty early if I want to catch the beauty.

I'm thinking they have to do this to compete with Delta, Continental and soon Jet Airways. Jet won't be nonstop but will use the 773 and from what I've read is becoming a very popular carrier in India.

    Hey guys this started today!

I also read that we will get a second 777-200LR come January when Air India starts a nonstop DEL-JFK route. Hopefully the arrival time will be at a more reasonable hour!

There was a full page ad in the New York Times today advertising the new AI flight. It seems to be pretty standard now to make one page spreads for new services like this.

If the FC and business class cabin service is really good (i.e. much improved over the AI of old), expect this to bleed off some high margin traffic from EK and other 'premium' carriers that have done well with one-stop business travel to India.

I've been waiting a LONG time to finally get to see the AI 772LR! I remember first seeing pics of it and I fell in love immediately.

However, I forgot about the new colors. I was just driving down the ramp today and I saw a girthy fuselage and two GE90s coming towards me, so I pulled off to the side and *GASP*
