    Spotting in China.

I am going to China for two and a half weeks and was just wondering if anyone else had been there before and had any experience photographing planes from inside the terminals or at any locations in or around the airports at Beijing and Shanghai. I have seen alot of beautiful photos on airliners.net from Beijing and Shanghai so people seem to be quite into spotting in China, just wondering if the Chinese allowed photography of planes from inside the terminals. Any information would be helpful. Thanks and take care, Brian

Hi, I have done spotting in SHA, PVG and PEK in 2004 and 2005. There was no restriction for taking photos from the terminal. While taking the bus from the terminal to the plane, I also took the opportunity to shoot and nobody said anything.

SHA is now surrounded by residential buildings. As my plane was turning onto the runway, I can see street traffic across a small ditch not far from the runway. I suppose there will be locations around the airport that allow good approach/takeoff shots. Do some research before hand.

The only problem is the heavy haze you will experience in the summer.

Good luck and share your photos once you return.

So what's the best time of year to go to China for spotting/photos?

Wow, sounds like it's easier to take pictures in China then at Newark

Probably because people are less paranoid there.

But I bet someone'll stop you in China if you go spotting with your three children and the family dog!

Here are some photos from China.

Taken from the bus to the plane:

    Note the haze:

    From the terminal:
    Again, very haze condition

But you can get nice shots like this too. This was taken while we got off our CA 74M

Finally, this rare Tu-154, shot thru the airplane window, heavily "repaired" in PhotoShop.

Hi JZ1, the photos you posted are not showing up on this end. I would love to see them somehow. Later, Brian
