Nice shots, Senga! Do you really shut down the engine to practice engine-out work? I would think you would just pull it to idle and feather the prop. Shutting it down sounds a little dicy to me.

    Thanks you.

Yes we shut one engine down completly We do have 2 :) DCA shuts one down 4000ft and above. In that shot we were at like 6500ft.
Its a good way to practice flying with a feathered engine and a windmilling prop and to force yuou to go through shutdown/ restar procedures. If something went wrong we have plenty fo altitude. When we are in the pattern and in the climb. We Retard the thottle to Zero thust to simulate a Windmilling prop and do single engine landings and climbs and dont shut it down not enough antodute there of somehting goes wrong..
One cool thing is what if the engine is prepped for restart you can simply restart it by pitching for 110 KTS in the Seminole and the engine with automatically restart itself.

hey senga, what was the reg on that slowtation? looks like the one my buddy gets to fly and he was supposed to be back and forth from FLA the last two weeks.

nice shots as always, what are you flying?

moose, i've done engine-outs where the instructors are especially cruel and pull the wrong (mixture) instead of the right (condition) knobs. then again, there was the one that taught me to auto-rotate be forcing me to do it for real on my fourth or fifth try by killing the engines... was a fun day!
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

You know why most light twins have two engines? They don't fly worth a damn on only one

    John,
Yes thats true, especially for the Piper Seminole. Its known for being an underpowered aircraft. Performance is kind of sucky in it.

    Tommy,
    Eh,
Not really I hope to get back up North soon.
