    Delta to Begin JFK-Montego Bay Service

    Delta’s New York Expansion Goes Reggae with New Nonstop Flights to Montego Bay
    NEW YORK, Feb. 15, 2007 – Delta Air Lines is putting a little Reggae in its ongoing expansion at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport with a new nonstop flight to Montego Bay, Jamaica, effective June 9*. The route is the latest in a series of more than a dozen new Caribbean flights that Delta has announced, added or applied to serve in the last year.

    “Delta continues to be bullish on New York and is pleased with the results of our ongoing expansion at JFK,” said Glen Hauenstein, executive vice president – Network Planning and Revenue Management. “We are responding to our customers’ demands, and we’re pleased to offer more nonstop service from JFK to exciting leisure destinations in the Caribbean and beyond as we build JFK into a world-class Delta hub.”

    Delta’s new flights between New York and Montego Bay complement existing service from Atlanta to Kingston and Montego Bay and are scheduled as follows:

    Travelers can take advantage of Delta’s new service with a special low introductory fare of $99 one way based on a round-trip purchase for travel between New York (JFK) and Montego Bay for reservations made at delta.com or through a travel agent. Customers must act quickly, for tickets at these special fares must be purchased by March 2 with travel completed by Oct. 27, 2007. Additional taxes/fees/restrictions apply.     Delta offers customers more flights to more destinations from New York City's two preferred airports combined -- John F. Kennedy International and New York-LaGuardia -- than any other airline.     This is cool. Too bad its only a 737-800, I would think that a 757 would be more appropriate for this service compared to the other types of planes used on this route. Don't some airlines use A300s or something?

    Air Jamaica flies the A340-300 along with an A321.

    tghey will learn REAL fast that 738 is going to get weight restricted and they will spend more loot shipping than profit because Jamaicans travel HEAVY!!!

    Yea, I would think that a 757 or 767 would be more appropriate for this route. Come on, an A340??? That's a huge airplane?? A 737 is like an ant compared to that plane. But whatever Delta thinks is necessary is how its going to go.

    I would immediately assume Air Jamaica's on-board service is a lot better in addition to the larger plane. But with all the vacationers and Jamaica-natives in the area, I'm sure there's enough room in the market for everyone.

    Yes, but Delta won't be able to do much competition with just a 737-800. I am just concerned for Delta's sake thats all.

    Air Jam service is GREAT. Even in the coach cabin it was wonderful and first is quite a treat. Delta first class holds up to Air Jamaica though. Both do a wonderful job generally.

    A 757 would be wise. I would even toss a 763 on there a few days a week.
