I am very surprised about this.

The stopover in GVA, the choice of EWR over JFK, and the only 4xweekly flight!

I am too, i thought JFK was the logical choice, but with Ethiad and Emirates hat JFk, maybe they wanted to take a different approach.

This is the orginal story from Italy, I'll find out tomorrow when the start dates are, they will look them up in the CRS.

    Hi Tommy,

It basically says the global carrier QR will be announcing daily nonstops to IAD with A346 aircraft and EWR 4 times a week via Geneva with A332 aircraft. The flights were searched and confirmed in the CRS...the rest is about AR's current service to Italy. I will find out flight start dates in the morning when my Italian friends are not sleeping :-).

IAD is a smart move for them, in as much as Qatar is where the US bases have relocated that used to be in Saudi Arabia. However, the EWR one stop is a bit puzzling, not because of the choice of airport (EWR makes sense with EK and EY at JFK to the Gulf) but because of the stop. Maybe they got a UN contract for GVA.

Apparently we can expect a DOH-JFK-DOH route after all once the the 777's are delivered.
