Allegiant has been profitable for the last couple of years, if they were losing money, I would have never posted......

I don't know anything about the company's financials, but they recently went public, which would not be a smart move for an airline company today unless they thought they could make money pretty consistently. The stock is up from the IPO price, and you can see more about it and some news and financial info on Yahoo Finance, link below:

Do they fly to the tri-state area? If not, would expansion be in the cards?

I believe they avoid anyplace where there will be direct competitioin - or even potential competition - on their routes.

They've come into EWR a handful of times and a couple of times in JFK I think - charters only. They were at Stewart not so long ago, but perhaps they were pulling out if I remember correctly.

How long can they fly the MD-80s is the question..

They just said they were going to be pulling out of SWF. I guess B6 was the reason they are leaving. They seem to be picking up a number of used MDs rather then going for new planes. The CEO stated a few months back it was cheaper for them to buy second hand planes then have to pay for new planes and high fuel costs. Hey if it works it works.

American will still flying thiers for some time to come...and we all know about the NW DC-9s.

Are the MD-80s three man crew? I believe so.

They fly into the FRG's of the regions they service which mean small airport less delay prone... and in some cases centralized a little more for those who live far from the big cities. They also make quite a bit back on the charter side of things. Another reason they can remain profitable is becuase they really do not have a hub and spoke syustem most cities they serrve only fly to one or two cities from there safe for SFB and LAS so missconnect bags cost is nearly non existant than.

Three man crew in the cockpit? MDs are a two men flight deck crew. Or are you talking about cabin.

I think tom was referring to the cabin crew (so I hope).... Its one for fifty in back and the Maddog cockpit is hellishly small as it is for two let alone three.

Northwest still operate the DC9, UPS is still operating the DC8.

As far as the MD80, Allegiant is operating the MD80's maybe as much as 8 hours per day. The aircraft do not fly into the evening hours, flights are no more than 4 hours per leg, basically out & back trips. 1 day a week, Allegiant 1 day a week, does not fly any aircraft, gives a chance for MX to be performed, if required....

So, as to how long? Probably when the 737NG start to be replaced by the 737NNG

Hmm, I wonder if Allegiant could fly to KFRG?
