Korean Air 747-400PAX Cargo Conversion (JFK)

Keep your eyes out for the KAL 744 PAX to Cargo conversions. I was at JFK this evening at 1am to try to get another aircraft and came accross the KAL.

Yes yes I know it SUX..please be gentle! My Job is to only inform :)

After photographing the KAL 744 I came accross some speed racer type punk guys, girls (fast and the furious types) whatever that is kind of people blocking Rockaway blvd east bound (adjacent to KAL and Fedex cargo). There was about 30 or so of these people blocking the 2 or3 lanes!. I couldn't even get by as cars were everywere and intentionally blocked the highway as I made my way on there GRASS one of the guys had enough nerve to ask me to "Stop, they are about to race" engines reving and tires screeeching....People were looking like I was the strange one - I was like " I'm about to get a classic beat down by a roudy mob of 30 shiftless people at 1am in the morning. I got up enough nerve to ask one guy what they are doing and he said drag racing.
I took a few shots (STUPID ME) and got the hell outta that place!
You would think with all the crap us locals photogs get at JFK they would be on these kind on people...amazing. Where were the cops then?

And NO I wasnt participating!!!! :)

Haven't seen that KE 744F at JFK before, nice one Senga! Have to keep an eye out for it.

Can't believe they're still racing that strip, they've been doing it for a long long time. Of course, back in the day (over 20 years ago) they were using "real" cars, not 2 cyl honda's :)

    Mike,
Wow so you guys know about that racing activity. At first I though it was some kind of Police blockcade stip down at first, then I though someone got ran over or something.
I should have taken that time to whitness to them the awsome and all powerful religion of aviaiton photography :)

Whats so tough and cool about a YELLOW honda, geo making a BUZZING sound with SHINY wheels that SPIN when a car is stationary?

    h2opunk1822,

I should have done what you did and made a U-turn!. But what do I do? Drive right through it and ask questions LOL!

I was thinking about how much it would suck of right hene I get there when the cops roll up and everyone leaves and IM stuck there alone. Of course I'd tell them "I wasn't part of that group!" yea (suuuuure) bright red sports car that you have there.

So what are you doing out at 1:30am in the morning then?

Well see I'm a aviation photographer? And wanted to get a new plane?

That's the factory-made -400 freighter Nick, Senga's talking about the pax -400 conversion which has the full upper deck.

    That true,
Nick these are ex KAL passenger 400s converted to freighter. More and more airlines are starting to do this. Keep your eyes out for the Cathay Pacific ones too. They come in frequently. Another sign the 400 series is coming of age now.

    NP :)
So many thing are changing so fast its hard to keep up. Now when we see a KAL Cargo flight on the tracker we will have to wonder if its a F model or the conversion :)

What about the 2.7hp boost you get by installing a fake fire extinguisher on your fake roll cage?
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9
