Tenerife show on PBS right now- new questions.

I am blown away by what I am watching right now on PBS.

    by Nova.

Was this accident the start of CRM? Crew resource management?

Do other US based airlines still service Tenerife?

Did only the one crew member survive from the Pan Am jet? I just learned all the KLM crew and pax perished.

Also learning the Dutch(barring any Austin Powers 2 references) tired to blame the Pam Am when its relatively clear Pan Am wasnt at fault.

They are now mentioning,,,,Midnight Mike, is that hte jet careers guy in the show now?

im blown away by it all!
And I, I took the path less traveled by
and that has made all the difference......yet...
I have a feeling a handle of people are going to be very interested in what I post in the near future.

    Mario--
finished watching it myself I was amazed at the evidence uncovered and so surprised that no one from KLM survived. Quite a shock to hear.

As for at fault yes quite a few events led to it, but unfortunatly the KLM was at fault clear as a bell by going ahead to take off when he was never cleared to take off.

Pan Am wasn't at fault it was The KLM Captain's fault. The entire flight deck survived on the PA 747. Get the book "Terror at Tenerife" Good reading.

Very interesting, glad I watched it. Definately was KLM fault, should've waited for takeoff clearance, but it seems like that pilot had too much of an ego. Nothing against his skill, but after doing the same thing so good for so many years I would imagine that there are frustrating times like this where one's tempted to say, "ugh everythings fine, lets just go already."

Sorry if I seem like a twisted freak, but I laughed a little when the one lady just got finished talking about how she got seperated from her husband and he died in the fire, and then they cut to a shot of the flight attendant saying, "after the crash I went and started a family!" Sort of remined me of the movie Airplane.
    Shoot first, ask questions later.

    baseball...nah.

    anyone else catch the show?

Nik, KLM was clearly the catalyst but as the show mentioned, there were other factors contributing to the crash.

Is Terrror at Tenerife a picture book? I only read books with pretty pictures ;)

Every crash has factors Mario but only one key factor causes the crash. The KLM captains failure to follow proper procedure is the cause.

Watching it again on 21 right now. The re-enactment is so cheesy.

No Mario, no pics or Russian women. It is a great book and I recommend it.
