To the untrained eye, winglets look sexy and downright elegant—aircraft without them suddenly seem less modern, a bit dated. On a sunny day early in May, an American Airlines Boeing 757-200 rolled out of AA’s maintenance base in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The pair of winglets that went onto the American 757 happens to be special: it is the 1,000th shipset to be delivered by Aviation Partners Boeing.
