AirTran Holdings logs record quarterly profit

CHICAGO, July 27 (Reuters) - AirTran Holdings Inc. <AAI.N>, parent of low-cost carrier AirTran Airways, on Thursday said it notched a record profit in the second quarter on revenue gains as it increased traffic and load factors.
The carrier, which has its main hub in Atlanta, said profit amounted to $32 million, or 33 cents per share, compared with a profit of $11.4 million, or 13 cents per share, a year earlier.
