South African A340-600 to JFK from Now On

Starting on July 3rd South African operated their first A340-600 flight into JFK. Apparently IAD and JFK will now both see the A340-600 on a daily basis. The A340-300 for JFK will now go to HKG.

This makes South African the 4th A340-600 operator into JFK!

Awesome! I had saw that on July 3rd a spotting thing was sorta planned, hoped that someone had saw her land! Also, did anyone happen to cath a shot of the United flight from NRT on July 3rd? My friend was returning from NRT on the flight.

Heh. The Star Alliance one, ZS-SNC, operated the inaugural Springbok 346 flight into IAD two days earlier.

I'm sorry to see their 744's disappearing from the US routes. I've had many a pleasant flight between the US and SA on the 744's - and they used to go non-stop as well - ATL-CPT and previously MIA-CPT were the flights I always used to go on. Many of my SAA contacts have voiced their displeasure at the Airbus products SA has - they aren't what they were originally touted to do. But, the decisions have been made I do love seeing the pics of SNC thought and the 738 they have in Star Alliance color (ZS-SJV) - a good friend of mine has been the skipper on that a lot recently - look forward to your pics of SNC Mel!

Let me share my shot of SAA A340-600 first arrival at IAD. Senga wasn't happy that it was in Star Alliance cs :) But rest of the guys (about 8 of us) were jumping up and down.

And if you are interested, here are some pictures of the spotters from DC area jumping up and down in joy of having this beauty at IAD :)

Not sure why, but my post seems to have disappeared or been deleted... Here it is again for the benefit of all...

Here are some additional pictures of ZS-SNC from Monday (click on the links):

    1) ZS-SNC being towed to a gate at Terminal 4

    2) ZS-SNC parked at a gate at Terminal 4 prior to departure

I remember reading about a year ago that they were going to use the 747-400 only to London

Wow, that IAD shot is great! The perfect side on really shows how amazingly long the 346 is...

The South African is my favorite A340 anyway, but it's really something special to see it as a 600 and in SA colors. :)
