In 2000 my Alma Mata, Aviation High School received a retired FedEx 727. It's currently at the school's JFK Annex.
Unfortunately for me I graduated way before they received that gift.

After I graduated from Purdue in 1995 they got one there as well, caught a glimpse of it when I was out there in 2011

Since FedEx seems to be in the giving mood would be nice to get a 727 nose to build a SIM in my backyard.

Purdue used to (still does?) have an ex-United 727 as well.

(Scan of a print circa 1995).

San Jose State University also had an ex-United 727 painted up in school colors, but when they moved the aviation department from SJC to RHV, they scrapped it. :(

United did a nice job painting the 727s up in school colors and giving them out to the various schools. Probably got a nice tax write off too.

I remember the day that 727 landed at Purdue University Airport, I think it was the biggest plane that had landed there so there was a big crowd to watch it. There was an open house in '97 and I got myself inside it

I was using a fixed-lens compact camera so this was the best shot I could manage from the outside

Apparently, Purdue also had a 737 but I never knew of it until years later when I was watching a program about the USAir 427 crash and they were using it to try to replicate the rudder problem

Is that the 727 that is sitting over by the Atlas ramp at JFK?

I never knew about the Purdue 732 until I searched for the fate of the ex-UA 727.

    Shredded in 2006 :(

Now that is a damn shame. But at least I know what ended up happening to it, thanks for posting

Yeah Steve, it is the 727 by Atlas. Aviation leases a small piece of tarmac. It's completely fenced off from the rest of the field
for security. Hope it never sees the same fate as the Purdue 72.
