Geneva Int'l - (LSGG) Switzerland - JUNE 2011 (IMAGE HEAVY)

Got a chnace to do some spotting during my week vacation there last Sunday, did not really go the way I wanted to, the weather turned out to be the hottest day out of all the days that I was there and I was batteling with the light as well. Was planning to have all day yesterday to my self away from all the family stuff with some local spotters, but turned out to a total wash out :(

Over all was a good experience and made the best out of it!

    Thank you, Mark !

Steve, Thanks man, I have more but the heat haze was way too much on them :( .. caught a few right before my departure yesterday, I will have then up soon

Manny, where do I start ! It sure was a great feeling exploring a new airport in a new country, sucks i did not have enough time on my hands ..
As far as the spotting part, it is fantastic. There are some locations that will blow you away, depending on the runway use and the timing of the day. I was going to meet with one of the top guys there which I was in contact with way before I arrived there, we even set up a meeting point when I got there but we ended up missing each other. I did run into 2 more local spotters which helped me out in a great way by showing me around a little.

You wanna talk about access and security .... Here is a story for ya !!! When I got to one of the locations, I could not figure it out the way it was explained to me, so I was driving around for a good 20 min and did not want to just start shooting anywhere, next thing you know I'm right next to the fence by the runway where their "PAPD" was stationed. So I just pulled up and walked in, there was about 6 officers in there, I introduced my self and told them why I was there and needed some help. Next thing you know, all these guys are pulling out maps and showing me all the specific locations, where there are actually holes cut out in the fences for spotters and other locations as well. One guy goes, you know, this is going to be hard for you to figure out, he jumps in my car, another guys gets into a cruiser and they drove me to the spot where I needed to be ! Lets see PAPD doing that for someone here .. LOL

    Kaz, great shots!

Where else in Switzerland did you go? Any reason your family chose Switzerland as its destination?

GVA is one of the most spotter-friendly airport in the world. The fences have holes cut in them, the police are friendly and helpful, and the traffic is incredibly diverse and frequent for an airport of its size. My favorite locations are the PrivatAir lot on the SE side, and the refugee camp stairs on the NE side.

Which local spotters were you in contact with? I've met tons of those guys, and they're always incredibly helpful!!

    Thanks TIS !

I ended up there because of my wife's family lives there, it was her grand mothers 80th Bday celebration, it was very nice, I got to see allot of the country within the week. Lots of pics :)

Yes the traffic is awesome there as you said, even though the Sunday that I was there was pretty slow, but still great. That lot does have an amazing view depending on the light. I was in touch with Paul Denton which I did not get to meet in person, met Chris Nobs, great guy, which showed me around and I ran into an older gentleman which I cant remember his name.

Welcome back Kaz-Man!!! Fantastic stuff and the story about the guy jumping in your car and taking you to a spotting location is great! Maybe they (the PA NYNJ) should send some of their PAPD folks there from some spotter training (Spotter Training 101 - How to help a spotter). Look forward to seeing more and catching up with you. Right now I'm in Virginia on business for the week, I might try to do some spotting by Dulles if time permits.
