Question about B747 LCF

Since the new B744 LCF is used to transport large airplane parts, I guess it has never flown here to JFK or has it? Where can spotters see this unusual sight? The only unusual sight I have seen was back in May 1983 when I saw the Shuttle Enterprise piggy-back aboard a B747 SCA over NYC enroute to the Paris Air Show.

I believe they four of them now. They have been to JFK several times, most recent visit I'm aware of was last October...



I guess you could plug the registrations into FlightAware and track them that way to see if one is due into JFK.

if you'd like to see one you need to be at PAE, CHS, IAB and occasionally ANC here in the U.S. or HHN, TAR in Europe or NGO in Japan. Thats about it. There are 4 aircraft currently.

Should be coming back and actually landing this time when Enterprise is delivered to the Intrepid, though not sure when that will be.

I say the REALLY go all out in luxury and deliver them via the Shuttle Transport 747

NASA was at the U-H Center a few months ago evaluating Enterprise for transport on the 747. I would doubt it goes by road. Don't know how many of you have been up close to the Shuttle in Washington, but it's *BIG.* Just the fuselage likely wouldn't fit under the overpasses on 95. I don't even think it could be trucked to the Potomac and loaded on a barge for the trip up to NYC.

The intent, last I heard, was to certify Enterprise to fly it. They still have the not insignificant matter of getting from whichever airport it lands it to the waterfront though, which ought to be a sight to see.

My bet would be JFK - same as they did with the Concorde.

JFK is surrounded by water so it shouldn't be too difficult. They loaded the Concorde onto a barge pretty easily and floated it up to the Intrepid. Enterprise's fuselage is wider, but it's a lot shorter than Concorde, and the wingspan is a few feet shorter as well. Weight is nearly identical, probably even lighter without engines.
