Pullmantur 747 and Alitalia MD-11 at EWR

Parked at EWR this morning was a Pullmantur 747, not looking like it's going anywhere soon , and an Alitalia MD-11 on stand on Terminal B.

Unfortunately due to their parking positions, I was unable to read a registration on either one.

The 747 is tail on to IKEA on the B remote stands. Why couldn't they put it on A remote :-(

I can't seem to find them on Flytecomm!

Apparently both the flight from MXP and the flight from FCO were both operated by the B767-300 and I can't find the Pullmantur B747 flight.

Its pretty cool how this weekend has seen three very special Spanish visitors! Although I have not seen them my self at JFK and EWR it makes me feel like I am back in Madrid! 8)

The Alitalia MD-11 was on Red 1 as AZA4644 inbound and AZA4645 outbound to and from FCO.

I couldn't find the Pullmantur in a search of the last 10 days

It wasn't a cargo MD-11 it was a passenger one.

It was parked on stand on Terminal B attached to a jetway.

Alitalia MD-11 at EWR? I think the last time I saw that was when the Pope arrived on one. Air Force One with President Clinton arrived there as well to greet him and have a chat.

The Alitalia MD-11 used to operate EWR-MXP and EWR-FCO quite frequently until early 2004 I think.

Maybe it was a charter flight...as that type of AZA flight numner is usually used for cargo ops.

I suppose you're right; they were definitely there, thats for sure. Just seemed over the years I saw nearly all 767s. Probably just the particular months/years I used to spot there.

When did Alitalia begin EWR service anyway?

I remember in terms of the bigger jets and international traffic - it seemed to start with a daily Peoples Express 747 to UK and then joined by Virgin Atlantic..and suddently the flood gates opened after that.

I think SAS was the first to make the move over to EWR and give up JFK

The very last AZ MD-11 at EWR was in early Sept 2003.
