At work of course, reading your post. :frown:
What a fantastic day seeing this bird depart with Fred, Moose, and Eric. Photo's to follow shortly.
I missed it catching the A380 but I think I would have had time to go over, snap it and make it back to HoBe like you guys did... given the DELAYS the German went through to get out!!
Here some photo's for the C-54

We had a nice crowd out to give the C-54 a send-off for air show season. Here are some shots from this afternoon.

Mechanic Jeff Ellner, who also works at the Airpower Museum, checks an oil leak prior to take off. Remember, radial engines don't leak oil, they mark their territory...

I'm REALLY LIKE THIS 6.5MM Lens!!!! Shot most of the day with it!
Nobody really likes you, Fred...
I know Moose.... I know
Cool set guys... loved the 7D movie.
Great shots everyone and I really enjoyed the video Fred !!
WOW, talk about an AWESOME Birthday, huh Fred ?? Ha!!
Wish I knew where that place was... :frown: Awsome shots as usual. After feeling how nice it was out while taking my dog for a walk I was like I should go out and try to get that Finnair MD-11. Couldnt bring myself to shake the lazy off today.
It was closed many years ago when they replaced it with another NYC airport about 10 minutes away for increased runways for Jet traffic. You may know of this airport that replaced Floyd Bennett Field. It is call John F Kennedy INTL airport or JFK and is right around the corner.
I hate you Fred... well, hate is a very strong word. I am just jealous ha!
Did not see the Finnster today. But I wasn't really paying attention :-)
Other than NYPD helicopters, the next thing to show up over there will be this C-54, when it returns for winter maintenance in December...but it wouldn't kill you to spend a little time touring the HARP restoration hangar either.
Do you need access for that or can you just walk on?
Great coverage guys. Fred really dont know how you blew that takeoff, everyone else got it.

Excellent coverage guys! Its always humbling to see a piece of aviation history maintained and flying high.
Question:
Since FBF does not have an "operating" tower, was this take-off under the control of JFK tower?
Yes - they had to contact JFK tower when they were ready to depart.
How often do flight occur over there?
to a point. FBF isn't controlled. NYPD a/c will be in contact with JFK while they're in the air but once they're sure they can land that's it for JFK's control. we'd call "landing assured" and at that point are basically on our own as far as collision avoidance goes. same goes for 500EJ as far as i know.

Tim is the pilot and I can not believe he asked me to go for a ride. It was amazing as you can not purchase a ride
in this classic war transport bird. This was a Great Birthday Present! THANK YOU TIM!
