I started with FS2 on the Commodore 64. That thing was impossible to land, with its 7 frames per second framerate. Moved up to a floppy-disk based version when I had a Mac Plus. Then I got into FS98 when I got my first PC. It helped me get through grad school

Those FS98 shots are EPIC, hard to believe we once thought that was awesome and detailed...


I have yet to use X-Plane 10, so I can't say I have much to compare to, but FSX does all I want it to.

As for my sim, FSX Gold SP2 with Acceleration.

My Tomcat, F-35, and Goshawk are freeware from Dino Cattaneo.

The Hornet is the payware SuperBug X from VRS Simulations.

The Falcon is Aerosoft's payware F-16X.

The L-39 is the LotusSim payware model.

The aircraft carrier is a freeware one that's pretty easy to find, very much worth the time to download as it even has the interior modeled.

The St. Maarten scenery is the payware FlyTampa X variant.

They promote it as a free download that will work without the need for a serious gaming rig, but you only get a few odd picks for aircraft and can only fly around Hawaii unless you pay for more. Regular people seem to think its OK at best but simming enthusiasts are thoroughly disgusted by it

I have 1 add-on package left to master on FS9: PMDG's 747-400 'Queen of the Skies'. Then I'll move on to either FSX or X-Plane

I have FSX, but am not a real-life pilot. I found the first few training lessons to be good, but then the next lesson I tried was dramatically harder due to lack of "instruction". Does X-Plane have better training, or do they all pretty much assume you generally know how to fly?

Microsoft gave up and pulled the plug on the game some time ago, so X plane will be the only game in town for the foreseeable future...

X-Plane is generally regarded as having slightly better flight dynamics. That said, having taken a few lessons, you know that there's a huge gap between how planes handle in the sim vs the real world.

In my case, I'll take the enhanced visual fidelity and more detailed VCs of FSX such that I have a better sight picture, even at the expense of slightly inferior handling.

So I started this project in March...Designed it on a 3D modeling program...Gave it to my friend who owns a factory who does this kind of stuff, He cut the parts and i put it together! Sorry for being so late!~

I know a flight sim takes a lot of processing power, as do intensive graphics, but come on! It's just sloppy coding if that configuration can't do it. Look what they used to be able to do w/ 8-bits & 64K of RAM back in the day....

After many months of tweaking, X-plane 10 is starting to meet my expectations graphics wise. The blue haze is a new atmospheric scattering effect that many other simmers are fooling around with... Feel free to ask any questions!

Jared, I think you need to start saving up for one of those Cray supercomputers that can handle several petaflops per second- then you will be able to max out X-Plane:cool:

On a Flight Sim note, I'm fully immersed in my latest FS9 addon, PMDG's 747-400. The bundled liveries aren't all that but fortunately you can download additional free liveries from their website. It's extremely involved with a functioning FMC(that I am failing to master), and the flight model is amazing. But, I did fly the 13L approach in the British Airways example 2 weeks ago and managed to set it down properly in front of the triple hangars- too bad nobody was at T5 to capture it:wink:

Awesome stuff! I just put X-Plane 9 on my Macbook. It is okay, but I miss FS9. I will run boot camp and install Windows 7. I know my Mac won't run FSX, but it should handle FS 2004 with no issues. I find the flight mechanics and controls of X-Plane to be too stiff. Plus, FS9 is 10 years old and you can still get awesome scenery packages and awesome aircraft.
