View Full Version : Longest Flight from JFK ?

Out of curiosity, I was thinking about which non-stop flights out of JFK cover the longest range. Off-hand, I would say the flights on Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong but are there any longer direct flights? Also, what is the shortest flight? There was once a scheduled ferry flight from JFK to EWR but it might have been suspended.

Thai used to have a non-stop flight from JFK to BKK, thats 7540nm in great circle distance

KJFK - FAJS (New York to Johannesburg) is 7969nm - that used to be a non-stop with the SAA B744 - SAA's longest at the moment is IAD to Johannesburg non-stop which is 8134nm

What route does SAA take that makes IAD longer than JFK? Odd.

Singapore was one that had a very long one on the A345.

Ahhh Great Circle Mapper.
I thought I was the only one that used it. For me . Its one of the best site I have used on the net.

I think the longest flight is the one from your terminal to the parking lot at quitting time and the airtrain is not working :lol: :lol: :lol:

Singapore was one that had a very long one on the A345.
They still do, but it's out of EWR. Still the world's longest scheduled flight: 8285 nm, around 18 hours nonstop.

Unfortunately, the SAA flight to Johannesburg stops at Dakar so it is not non-stop. The daily flight to Singapore on SIA stops at Frankfurt. It appears that the daily Cathay Pacific flight to Hong Kong might be the longest. The Great Circle Mapper, which I also use, says the distance from JFK to HKG is 8072 miles which is a greater distance than to Beijing, Tokyo or Seoul. I still can't find the shortest flight from JFK.

Probably JFK-PHL on Delta Connection ERJ-145: 81nm
Followed by JFK-ALB: 127nm
JFK-BWI: 160nm
JFK-ACK: 173nm

Dulles is much further west than it is south of JFK. IAD is about 39N, 77.5W; JFK is roughly 41N, 74W.
