View Full Version : Anyone Catch Midwest Express S turn for Lga R4 on final?

Got off the Grand Central this morning at about 1010 and had an AA Super 80 on short final (Runway 4). But then saw an aircraft for #2 landing Runway 4 going towards the city. Awkward Sight, but then saw it was S-turning. Got to the Astoria Blvd light and it was turning right to line up. Ended up being a Midwest Express E175. Quite awkward to see at such a low altitude and turning left(WEST -towards city) as opposed to right.

i see what you're saying, but S-turns are completely normal.

I agree they are normal, and come. Heck I had to do one on final as well during my 2nd solo at Republic. Just not used to seeing one for LGA, at low altitude and a turn towards west, as opposed to east, away from Citi bank building. Lol.

Many times after a GDP to LGA ends when they are doing 13 departs and 22 lands for efficency (it's the best config because of the poximity of the two thresholds) NY approach will pack them in when they are getting them set up and making the conga line. Sometimes you will see in upwards of 4 and even 5 birds on a good day/nightvisibility wise and 3 of them will be making those lovely lazy s turns down the pattern at the request of LGA tower so they can shoot the 13 depart off between each arrival. It is really quite intresting to watch and listen to. I used to spend alot of nights up in the tower after a bad afternoon of thunderstorms watching it.

cool, it would be neat if they kept the old tower for enthusiasts to visit and listen in while they towered over us in the new one. i wouldnt mind paying for a background check, etc. or just show my airline badge. :D

The old tower will be torn down, as it creates visibility problems for controllers in the new tower.

That thing gives me visibility problems. It looks like the architect designed it after spending a day sketching at Ikea or somthing.

OUCH! that looked like a tough landing with a lot of cross load on the gear. I'm no expert but maybe a puff of throttle would have helped cushion the landing.

I don't know if that's so much of that aircraft doing S-turns as it is having overshot final and trying to correct back to centerline!

Rough landing in a crab with those winds... A little rudder would have helped...
