I was once riding on the Port Authority JFK shuttle bus from T1 back to the train station pre-AirTrain days. I started a discussion with a guy who worked at a ramp area when he spotted my camera with a long telephoto lens. I told him that I spent the day photographing aircraft. I asked him if anybody working around the aircraft takes photos and he said that workers are forbidden to bring cameras on-field. Since this was before 9-11, I was surprised. Has it always been forbidden for tarmac personnel to take photos?

I used to work at JFK and FRG.. and i never had any problems with bringing a camera to work, as a matter of fact some of my best pics were from when i was working. yes they might be forbidden, but noone really cracks down on it that i know of.

NYC airports do not permit photos rampside by employees. Don't waste your time mentioning the contradictions and all, but that's the rule.
