American Airlines has fitted winglets on the first of 30 767-300ERs. No word on how fast the other 29 will receive them, or when this bird, N389AA, will be back in service.

Wow, that is a big winglet.
I've been waiting a long time to see a photo like that. I clicked on the link, waited a few seconds for it to load with my eyes closed, then opened them with a little "ta da!" Very exciting stuff. :)

i dont think that the FAA has approved the mod yet. i do know that AAL let Aviation Partners use the 767 for the installation/ test work that needs to be done prior to the mod being approved though. definately going to be a great addition to the fleet! kudos to AAL for being so pro-wingelt!

Kinda sexy looking winglet - will have to go to MIA to catch those when they are in service...

That winglet has to be about 15/16 feet tall no? These will look real nice banking over Hobe now.

At first I was surprised to see this was being done in MCI versus TUL but I remembered MCI usually handles the widebodies, A300, 767 and 777 while TUL handles the MD80, 738 and 757 am I correct in thinking this?
Agree with everyone one sexy bird and truly makes me want to fly American even more! Cannot wait to see this in the air!

Man I am going to hate seeing these 767s with winglets. As if the 757 (WL) was bad enough. sheeeeeesh. Another disappointment.

I hope they polish up the rest of the plane so it's as shiny as the winglets.
