GEORGETOWN, Guyana — Guyanese authorities say a first-class airline passenger was so angry at seeing economy passengers leave a jetliner before him that he yanked open an emergency hatch and slid down the chute.
Police spokesman Sealall Persaud says the Guyanese man identified as Satyanand Christopher appeared to be intoxicated after the Delta Airlines flight from New York.
....
Delta spokesman Junior Horatio says the U.S. carrier plans to file charges against the man for interfering with flight crew members.
I am glad that my airline didn't have to deal with this, and I wonder if Delta realizes that this kind of stuff is almost normal on these flights. I used to work with Mr. Horatio, too.

You're right, Phil. As I was reading this, I was thinking you must be glad NA is out of that business now.

I'm actually surprised this has not happened yet in the US, esp. after the many hours that B6s pax were stranded on 2/14/07.

All those B6 planes were pressurized at the time, no way in hell even the strongest person was opening those doors.
I'm sure Delta is very well aware of the kind of passengers down that way, its not like this is their first time serving "odd" destinations.

Guyanese people are actually great people. Generally kind and friendly. Unfortunately you just end up with a couple odd characters here and there when flying. Of all the flights we did, I actually miss the GEO ones.

All the doors aren't disarmed once the parking brake is set?

The flight attendants have to disarm their doors upon arrival after the brakes are set. Although, maybe they only disarm the doors that will be used for the pax to disembark, which would make sense becuase if something happened while deplaning, the doors are still ready for a quick evac.

I would imagine Phil that NOA has the same policy we do at US which is to disarm all doors when the parking brake is set. It is very common practice for the caterers to open the R1 or R2 doors while the aircraft is deplaining, I have actually in a few cases seen them in the galley before the jetway was on. Failure to disarm all doors would result in frequent slide deployments trust me.

Yes, that is our procedure. I don't know if that's something that changes for other airlines though. I wish our caterers were as vigilant as yours!

Upwards of $12k, depending on the aircraft type.

IIRC The Airbus doors , by design will not deploy the slide if opened from the outside; Imagine one of those slides hitting the caterer or gate agent..
