I heard there are delays at the local airports due to equipment problems on the radio this morning, but no further details. FAA only says this: "Due to EQUIPMENT / OUTAGE, departure traffic destined to La Guardia Airport, New York, NY (LGA) is currently experiencing delays averaging 51 minutes."

Anyone know wassup?

I'm thinking a "Die Hard 2" scenario (kidding).

N90 wasn't able to perform automated handoff's this morning so it slows things down a bit. A VOR being out of service on a clear day like today isn't too big of an issue.

Yeah, the ATCSCC put up ground stops for EWR, LGA, JFK, HPN, and TEB. Backed up flights at work for about a half hour. PITA, really. Most of our guys just ended up going VFR instead when the weather lifted out in Nantucket.

Evidently, the "Host" computers went down on the East Coast for several hours. ATC had to manually control all inbounds and outbounds until it was stabilized and returned to service. As a result, hundreds of flights were delayed at all area airports. The report said that the current system is antiquated by 30 years, which is about when I first started listening to my aircraft scanner.
