Man, you all have better model collections than me, I guess I will have to go shopping sometime soon! :D

Am I the only one who collects luggage tags here? I have some rare stuff that you can't buy, mostly from my contacts at DTW, but still not a lot.

Here is most of my collection:

P.s., sorry for the bad focusing and qauality, it was my first time messing with manual focus, lets say it didn't go too well ;)

My main thing is collecting models. I've got about 430 1:500 scale models complete with a model airport. I also have about 75 models mixed between 1:200, 1:400, and 1:600.

Don't really collect much else aviation wise but I do pick up the ocasional baggage tag.

430 1:500 models? You must have spent a fortune!!! That is nuts, I have a grand total of 2 models (both of which are kind of special to me because I bought them at the National Air and Space Museum)

I collect 1:400 models and I have about a dozen of them. I also keep most of my boarding passes, although I only started doing that recently so I only have two.

I build plastic models (have over 150 in different scales and build mostly military) and have about 50 1/400 Geminis and Dragon Wings aircraft. Add in a few more snap-fit airliners and that rounds out my collection.

I try to collect only things that have personal significance to me, from airlines I've flown or other aviation entities that I've had some connection to, like charter cos. where friends work etc. Lately I don't save things that aren't somewhat unique (i.e. rare airline, inaugural service, unusual item, etc) but when I was a kid I saved everything so I have stuff from defunct airlines like Eastern, Pan Am, Western etc.

I have these Northwest Orient Game Cards. We picked them up on one of the NWA Orient flights to Korea. Dad was stationed in Korea from 1980-1983 because of this I have some bits and peices of of airlines stuff here and there. Mainly KAL JAL and NW Orient. I was 6 years old when we moved there. If I find other stuff I'll post it.
Are these of any significance to anyone at all? I am not a big collector of aviation stuff so I don't know.

I collect registrations :)
I don't know if I collect anything in particular. I used to collect safety cards. Got bored and sold my entire collection (with exception of few important to me). Right now I have over dozen 1:200 models, hundreds of timetables, vhs and dvds of JP world fleet and airports, lots of aviation related books, stickers, posters, decks of cards, pens, pins, pilot wings, around 15 000 pictures (prints) that I took between '97 and '03, and many many more stuff. My appartment is like a big aviation flea market :) I also have set of Britannia Airways B757-200 chairs in the corner of my living room :)

Some of my books :)

My collection includes airline timetables. I threw away many of these as my space is limited. Braniff used to change the color of their timetables monthly. I also collect ticket jackets where they place your ticket. Only 1 airline ever refused to give me one: Saudia Airlines. I also have Concorde menus that they were kind enough to give me. I love airline logos. I also build airline models. I have mostly Concordes and 747s. Sadly, the decals peeled-off some of my older models. I also collect old tickets, luggage tags, etc. Now, it's almost impossible to collect these things. Timetables are no longer printed and the other items are only given to passengers. Finally, I collect frequent flyer cards. Now, these are very hard to find as they want members to print their own cards off the internet.

Sure, why not? I have a Qantas one hanging from the rear view mirror or my car :)

I collect all sorts of Av goodies.
-airline seats
-photos and books with aviation photos
-old boarding passes
-Old die cast planes (I have a bunch of Ertl Force One Planes from over 13 years ago).
-Anything AA related :D
-tshirts. But I like jerseys with Aviation sponsors. I like mixing my hobbies.

A note about the Virgin seats--When I originally got them from a seller on eBay, there were only two seat covers. I contacted Virgin and they were quite amused with my purchase and subsequently sent me five brand new seat covers for free! I also gave them the part number of the seats, and they were able to see they came off G-VBIG in 2001.

All my collections have some sort of personal value. Most of my stuff is old Grumman things, a couple random models, some hand-built stuff, etc.

Here are my models. The S-2 in the center is a pre-production version made by Topping, over 50 years old, and pride of my collection...

If you've ever been to the Cradle of Aviation and been in the mock LEM clean room, you may have seen a copy of this on the wall

Back when it was just a baby Tomcat
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c180/GrummanFan/IMG_0158.jpg

What I love about all the old books is that there is so much experimental stuff and things that never went into full production. Its really interesting to see how history unfolded, what made it and what didn't. I also have a Grumman magazine in the basement somewhere that shows the last production Tomcat taking off from Calverton. I'll dig that up tomorrow for ya.

Nice models, I like that Concorde one! Thanks. That large plastic Concorde was a wedding gift from BA's N.A. spokesman. What a surprise.

Steve, I love that OneWorld sign. That is HOT!

what models did 2006 bring u =] Actually, I was wrong. 2006 brought more than 3 pieces. I got the Air Tahiti Nui and Concorde 1:500's which were birthday gifts. And the EOS 757, SN Brussels 146 and large Air Tahiti Nui were corporate gifts. And the Harmony 757 was an NYCA av door prize :) So 2006 brought...6 models.

From left to right, the planes with arrows are the newcomers, the EOS 757, Harmony 757, large Air Tahiti Nui, SN Brussels 146 with the 500 scale TahitiNui below it. And sorry that Concorde is not an 06 acquisition.

The seats are also great. ;)

Wow, I skipped this thread for a few days and now I come back and see a museum-worth of stuff. Amazing.

Mario, that Concorde flask is the sexiest thing ever. Not to be a copycat or anything, but I'm on eBay looking for one now. I'm very tempted to spring for that Malaysia 777 also. :)

Thanks. It was a gift from a patient of mine who worked Concorde. Good luck finding it. In fact, next time I see them, will see if they have extras.

Me too but I just can't justify spending over $50 on a model. All that cash is now going to baby baby baby.

JZ1, you should have your PD contact read this thread. Great idea Scotty.

Finally, OMG, @ Flyingcolors, I was waiting for you to drop the gauntlet and show us your collection. I love it! What an awesome array! Just look at all the colors!

I found three, a pewter one like yours and a different BA model wrapped in leather, and an Air France one. I bid on the all pewter one, which seems to be brand new and unblemished, from a seller in the UK. It ends tomorrow, should be about US$30 including shipping which seems reasonable to me...I can't wait. :)

EDIT: Sorry, you can get a taxiway LAMP: http://sportys.com/acb/showdetl.cfm?&di ... ct_id=6866 (http://sportys.com/acb/showdetl.cfm?&did=19&product_id=6866)

A few years ago I almost bought a 747 door from eBay. I've been kicking myself ever since!

That Malaysian 777 is gorgeous. I'm tempted.

No taxiway light, but packed away (I'll have to find it and post a photo at some point) is a genuine Strategic Air Command fence warning sign, including that famous phrase "Use of deadly force authorized."

I've got 2 taxiway lights - one that's been made into a lamp and has a short stem (the usual-looking dome style, not the Sporty's triangle ones), and one that came from LGA during some construction there back in the early 90s that has the full stem. That one will be lamped eventually, but it's just sitting in a closet for now.

Don't knock the taxiway light lamps, either. Put a 15-watt bulb in it, and you get a nice soft blue light that doesn't keep you up at night, yet will keep you from walking into things when you amble around for a 3am snack. Functional, pretty, aviation nerdly, what's not to love?

The leather wrapped one is nice. My friend has it, got hers signed by Leslie Scott, the pilot who broke of Concorde's records and she uses it religiously, as its intended to be used.

Many years ago, there was no net. Just books! And trips to the local library. That was all there was, its now all so quaint.

The Great Airliners series is only a few years old, but the rest is from the 70's.

Wow! All this brings back memories. Between the ages of 13 and 17, from '78-'83 I'd go spotting at JFK (on the Worldport) every Saturday and Sunday. Eventually I worked up enough courage to hit all the airlines, when their respective airlplanes were in, and ask them to take me on tours of their cockpits and cabins. Sometimes they'd take me out on the apron and show me some skin. Along the ways I'd collect toy wings, real wings, airline issued postcards and the like. Further down I got into trading airline issued postcard with other spotters both from NYC and overseas. I also wrote the airlines (I got the address from my JP Airline book) and aircraft makers for souvenirs. It was unreal the amount of free photos, postcards, stickers, wings , etc that they sent you. The biggest kick was when I received stuff from airlines in the countries such Hang Kang Vietnam and Air Koryo (I can't spell its former name) and from airlines in Africa. I also managed to scarf some models from the Protestant church that used to occupy the middle ground at JFK. Some where in my cellar are boxes full of this stuff. Now, I buy Aeroclassics, Big Birds 1:400's and t-shirts from airline websites as well as Cafe Press.

Idlewild's story and FC's magazine cover bring back memories. In the mid-'70s, my parents were able to arrange for me to have a birthday party with AA at JFK, with cake at a gate area and a visit to the apron and a walk-through of an AA 747. A pic of my friends and I posing in front of those massive JT9Ds is occasionally my avatar here. Pre-deregulation (and pre-9/11), many airlines considered allowing this sort of a visit to be a good PR move that would encourage brand loyalty on the part of the kids' parents.
