Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Friday took delivery of its first new Boeing 777-300ER widebody jet (reg S2-AFO), which wore the airline’s new livery.

This first plane and the three additional 777-300ERs on order will replace the Dhaka-based carrier’s four vintage McDonnell Douglas DC-10s, which in recent years have been banned from flying to Europe and the United States due to safety concerns. The “newest” Biman DC-10 is 23 years old, while the remaining three are all between 32 and 33 years old. The airline also leases a handful of Boeing 777-200s
The delivery was also a milestone for Boeing, marking their 300th 777-300ER delivery. Biman Bangladesh becomes the 27th airline to operate the type, with 10 more to receive the jets through 2014. Boeing’s total 777-300ER backlog now stands at
Kuala Lumpur will be the new jet’s first destination from Dhaka. The airline plans to resume service to New York via Manchester as more new aircraft come online.
