Islip Town Supervisor Phil Nolan says the flights will begin in May. He noted that travelers can then use the Fort Lauderdale hub to make connections to 23 Latin American and Caribbean destinations where Spirit flies.

The town-run airport, which already features Southwest Airlines service, welcomed more than 2.3 million travelers last year, according to Nolan.

Unless they plan further expanssion what is the reason to use two gates? With only two flights a day they'll never have more then 1 plane on the ground at any given time.
