Upgrade Your Plane Spotting – Simultaneous Video and Pictures

Have you ever gone plane spotting and wished you could take stable video of that Airbus A380 right along side your DSLR photos? While most modern Android phones have the capability to take still photos while shooting video, most DSLR cameras do not yet have this feature. Holding your phone in one hand to record [...]

Great article Jason. Wonder how well it would do holding a P&S in video mode? Obviously would add more weight.

Similar to John, I'm considering trying this out with an old Flip video camera that I have lying around the house.

The mount actually holds my rather hefty Nikon S9300 fairly well!

My sony camera is too loud to do this. Hearing the click would drive me crazy lol. Google had a nice video on this a while back where the guy was doing live hangouts and showing shut ins what he was doing it was a great piece.

A neat trick, but certainly not an upgrade to me. Unless you like video of planes that are far away, and like others mentioned, with a DSLR soundtrack. And even if you mount a P&S that has video with optical zoom, who would be working it while the stills were being captured?

Eh, video from closer vantage points, such as Costco, would come out much better.

..or get a Canon 1DX or Nikon D4 to capture full resolution stills while videotaping :P although the stills are limited to 1920x1080 :( which is a real bummer.

This feature was SPECIFICALLY designed for Photojournalists who are more and more being asked for both Video and Stills.

You gonna supply the $$ for it, buddy?

Which is why I'm looking into it myself, though admittedly I don't think it does video any justice whatsoever.
