Why would a button that so easily scares every single passenger so easily accidentally pressed? Seems like the kind of button that should have a shield over it....

When there's a threat of crash, there's a lot to do int he cockpit to worry about making announcements, honestly. The flight attendants also have some duties that can make speaker announcements difficult.

I agree with this. However, BA or Boeing (I'm not sure if this is a standard function on a 747 or if this is a mod by BA) really need to fix the fat finger issue with that button.

Phil, trust me, I know that. Merely pointing out that sometimes greater harm is done than good with such levels of automation.

Actually, every passenger on a window seat should have a "WE ARE ABOUT TO CRASH BUTTON" tied to their window shade... if open, the damn thing just goes nuts announcing impending doom! I mean, what better way to tell than looking out the window? Don't believe me? Fly AA to Dominican Republic and make sure someone a little older is sitting near you!

Same thing must happen going to Cuba but I have not yet flown BACK to Cuba
