From reading the below article this sounds much worse than the similar USAirways event last Friday.

Two things from the article that really surprised me. The flight info monitors where not working, at my carrier it is a partially automated separate system. Whenever our regular computers have gone down the FIDS are never effected and if the auto input went down (updates time changes on flights) we could just update that manually. And really surprised if that flights where cancelled bags could not be returned to the customers. Simple you just dump them on the carousells in baggage claim and the passengers from cancelled flights just reclaim their bags.

Btw during last Friday nights US Computer failure at LGA no Mainline or Shuttle flights where cancelled and all operated within an hour of schedule though most where delayed in the 15-20 minute range.
