Aerocaribbean Flight 883 Crash
The Associated Press along with other news wires and Cuban media are reporting that Aerocaribbean Flight 883, operated by an ATR-72, went down between Santiago and Havanna Cuba tonight along with 68 passengers and crew. There is no word on survivors and no official cause of the crash, though it was one of the last flights to leave Santiago de Cuba prior to the airports closure ahead of TS Tomas.
The twice-a-week flight goes from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to Santiago de Cuba to Havana. It had been due to land in the Cuban capital at 7:50 p.m, but reported an emergency at 5:42 p.m. and subsequently lost contact with air traffic controllers.
State media is reporting that the aircraft went down not far from the Zaza Reservoir, near the village of Guasimal.
The airline has, understandably, not responded to a request for updates and has not appeared to have made any public statement at the time this post was made.
State media have confirmed there were no survivors.

I wonder if that Tropical Storm had anything to do with this...
