    JFK Tower in Red?

I haven't been at JFK after dark for years but last week I went to pick-up a friend. I noticed the JFK Tower bathed in red lights. Is it always lit red or does the lighting change like the Empire State? I seem to recall it was lit in white originally. When did they add red lighting? If always lit in red now, why red?

it changed from red to blue to purple when i was there tuesday morning.
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

I didn't know the JFK Tower changed color too. When I visited LAX at night, the Tower kept changing color, too. Maybe that's where the idea came from.

I believe it changes color to reflect the controller on duty's mood.
