I was spotting from the Brooklyn shore yesterday while bathing and watched aircraft arriving via VOR 13L Approach. It was fun to spot JAL, BAW, AJM, SIA, AFR and ANA. I was waiting for the arrival of KAL 81 and later learned that she never attempted that approach. She arrived instead via ILS 4R. Did the pilot request a different runway for landing? All the other aircraft used VOR 13L until about noon. This incident happened between 1130 and 1140. Was there a problem with visibility?
