If the transmission is electronically controlled, and the electronics are doing screwy things, it may have ignored the gear selector position.

Yup, this is the reason for the recall. the electronics are screwed up.....
It's hard to take chances but sometimes it's better if you do

mike i agree with your bull**** flag. if the car is in gear and moving forward there is no way it'll engage into reverse. neutral maybe, not reverse.
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

If you go into reverse, the car should stay in Neutral...if she was in reverse and it still was going...there is an issue.

She turned off the engine and it would not turn off... this is a big problem.

I could not understand why people were on the phone with police and still after over 45 seconds they could not get the car to slow down. I have a Camry and love it.. My wife has a Camry and I am concerned.
