The firefighter is sad, but not all that surprising. The city seemed to decide long ago that men and women who may have gotten sick from the WTC were not going to get any special treatment.

The Sean Bell thing is by far the most mind bogglingly insane thing I've ever seen the city do. The vast majority of NY'ers think it is obscene, yet only a few City Council members have opposed it and even the mayor said he would sign the bill (which includes dozens of other far less controversial street namings) rather than make a fuss about it. This is even worse than the time the City Council threw a party for Robert Mugabe.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

The Sean Bell family was down at City Hall and Bloomberg was taking pictures with them but he cant find the time to
have an official represent the city at this mans wake or funeral? :x

If they did, they would be liable for health and survivor benefits for these people. It's all about saving a few dollars.
