U.A.E. says it will build jets by 2018

    from gulfnews.com
Abu Dhabi is likely to become the first destination in the Middle East to build indigenous jet aircraft by 2018 if plans go ahead, an official said.

Mubadala Development Company, an Abu Dhabi Government undertaking, is developing capacity in that direction, according to Homaid Al Shemmari, Associate Director of Mubadala Aerospace. He told the media that Mubadala will build business jets in nine years — by 2018.

They certainly have the cash, space and education to give America and France a run for their money.

I think that being everything else they do is lavish Gulfstream is going to get a defineate run for their $$$ depending on the size classes they offer of jets. They will probalby use the foremost western minds to do it too.

I will play armchair-industrialist and say that if the UAE companies decide to offer three categories of biz-jets, short body/short range, medium body/medium to long range and large body/long to ultra long, then everyone from Cessna, Dassault, Airbus and Boeing will be working a lot harder to compete. In fact, I can see the US and France enforcing a trade-war on the UAE depending on how much government funding is used.

i really wonder if this is going to work. they definitely have the cash to back it all, but the market is already flooded with new airplanes. embraer found a niche early on and started there, building bigger airplane when the time came. now there are already promises from bombardier, mitsubishi and even chinese manufacturers. i just don't see everyone being successful...
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

Matt, you bring up a very valid point actually. Business jet's are on fire sale right now all over the place. Everyone is dumping them and doing leasebacks orputting them on 135's to generate revenue when the jets are not in use. Right now there is minimal market.
